We asked Shashi twelve questions, see what she had
to say:
1. As a celebrity, you are
“celebrated” by the people who admire you and look
up to you. What do you celebrate, every day of your
life?
I recently got engaged to the man of my dreams so i
feel blessed to wake-up every morning and celebrate
the gift of love.
2. If you had to invent a word to describe your
personality, what would it be?
Bubbletastic
3. What is your favourite room at home, and why?
I run my model agency, Alushi, from home And would
have to say that my favourite room in my house is my
office. I find my work both stimulating and
rewarding... I love every minute I spend in my place
of work.
4. What do you say to yourself in the mirror when
you wake up in the morning?
I am not very conversational in the morning... So
usually nothing!
5. If there was a perfume or fragrance named
after you, what would it smell like?
Feminine, fruity and fresh.
6. What superpower do you wish you had?
There are so many moments in my life were I have
wished that I could bottle that moment and relive it
again... So if I could attain a super power, it
would be the ability to make time stand still.
7. What ringtone do you have on your cellphone
right now?
The standard Blackberry ring tone.
8. What was the naughtiest thing you ever did as
a child?
When I was four, I tried to teach my dog, Fluffy,
how to fly... We lived in a two-storey house.
9. You’ve made your name as an actress in several
South African soapies. Which of the characters
you’ve played would you cross the street to avoid?
My character Sureshni, on Egoli, became a raging
heroin addict so would probably want to avoid her in
a dark alley.
10. You’re a covergirl and you own your own
modelling agency. What’s the biggest myth about
modelling for a living?
The modelling industry has it’s perks... Traveling,
fabulous parties and there’s loads of spoiling;
everyone loves freebies! As with every job though,
there are sacrifices. Waking up at 4am for the usual
5am call time, very long days which often involve
donning swimwear in the middle of winter or skiwear
in the sweltering summer sun – I have fainted on
more than one occasion- and time away from your
loved one’s. In my experience, the people who
succeed in this sometimes fickle industry are those
who approach it with the dedication a demanding job
requires. Those in it for the glitz and glamour
usually fall by the wayside.
11. You were once nominated as one of
Cosmopolitan’s Awesome Women of the Year. What’s the
most awesome thing about being yourself?
The opportunities I have had to meet incredibly
talented, creative and –sometimes- famous people. It
has also helped me to partly fulfill my dream of
seeing the world.
12. You’ve very involved in empowerment and
upliftment through fashion projects for young
people. How can fashion make a difference to young
people’s lives?
I am involved in a non-profit organization called
“Fashion with Feeling”... It aims to inspire and
financially empower individuals who under normal
circumstances would not be afforded the opportunity
to be a part of the fashion industry. It’s simply
about equaling the playing fields.
